Ministry of TransportSpeakers
Transcript
2 Miss Cheng Li Hui asked the Minister for Transport (a) what is the current number of vehicles and stations under the car-sharing scheme; (b) what has been the utilisation rate; and (c) whether there are plans to increase the number of car-sharing vehicles and locations.
Mr Khaw Boon Wan: There are currently three operators running car-sharing schemes, with about 300 cars amongst them. The Government supports them by making available to them lots in Government-managed car parks. The Housing and Development Board has allocated more than 300 car park lots for their use.
The utilisation rate is competitive information for the operators. However, they have shared that it is healthy, growing, and tends to be higher during weekends and public holidays.
The Land Transport Authority and the Economic Development Board are currently evaluating proposals from car-sharing operators for an electric vehicle car-sharing programme that will see up to 1,000 electric cars deployed nationwide within 10 years.
