Police Action against Contractors who Take Deposits for Renovation Works and Do Not Carry Out Tasks

52 Mr Lim Biow Chuan asked the Minister for Home Affairs whether the Police will take action against contractors who take deposits for renovation works without any intent to carry out such works.

Mr K Shanmugam: Depending on the facts and circumstances of the case, contractors who deceive victims into placing deposits for renovation works without any intent to carry out such works may be liable for cheating offences under section 420 of the Penal Code. Where there are offences disclosed, the Police will investigate accordingly.
