Plans for Wet Market in Simei

Transcript

12 Mr Leon Perera asked the Minister for the Environment and Water Resources whether there are plans to build a wet market at Simei and, if not, whether the Ministry will consider conducting a study to assess the feasibility of the same.

Mr Masagos Zulkifli B M M: Wet markets are typically integrated with hawker centres to ensure their viability. According to my Ministry’s study of the area, there are sufficient eating establishments and commercial facilities within the Simei estate. The Tampines Round Market and Food Centre is also located a short distance from the Simei estate. There is, therefore, no plan to build a hawker centre or wet market in Simei.
