42 Mr Lim Biow Chuan asked the Minister for Education whether the Ministry will consider expanding the Primary 1 intake for Kong Hwa School since there are more young children staying in HDB's new BTO flats that are located in the vicinity of the school.
Mr Chan Chun Sing: School places are planned on a regional basis and consider current and projected changes in local demography. Where needed, adjustments will be made to the intake of schools to meet the projected demand, such as from new housing developments.
In the region where Kong Hwa School is located, the number of Primary 1 (P1)-going children is expected to be stable. There is a sufficient supply of P1 places in this region, because even as new Build-To-Order flats are being completed, the existing Housing Development Board estates are maturing. As such, we have no immediate plans to expand the P1 intake of the schools in this area, including Kong Hwa School. We will continue to monitor the school demand and adjust supply when needed.
