Estimated Number of Singaporeans Qualified for Election as President

2 Mr Leong Mun Wai asked the Prime Minister what is the estimated number of Singaporeans qualified to be elected as President as of 31 December 2022 as broken down by (i) those who fulfil the public sector service requirement, (ii) those who fulfil the private sector requirement, serving as chief executive in Government-linked companies (GLCs) and non-GLCs respectively.

Mr Chan Chun Sing (for the Prime Minister): The Elections Department does not track the number of Singaporeans qualified to be elected as President. There are currently about 50 Public Service positions that may fulfil the public sector service requirement. For persons relying on the private sector service requirement, there are currently more than 1,200 companies with average shareholders’ equity at or exceeding $500,000,000.
