47 Mr Desmond Choo asked the Minister for Manpower (a) how many workers and companies have been assisted by the waiver of foreign worker levies while the workers are on Stay-Home Notice; and (b) how long does the Ministry intend to extend this scheme for.
Dr Tan See Leng: From January to August 2021, a monthly average of 6,900 workers from 2,700 companies have been assisted by the waiver of foreign worker levies for the duration of their Stay-Home Notice (SHN) after entering Singapore.
On 20 September 2021, MOM announced that the foreign worker levy waiver during workers’ SHN would be extended up to December 2021. This extension will give employers more time to adjust to the costs associated with measures to reduce the risk of importation of COVID-19 as we gradually reopen our borders. MOM will review whether the waiver should be extended in end-2021, depending on the COVID-19 situation and border measures then.
