22 Mr Louis Ng Kok Kwang asked the Minister for Health whether the estimated number of annual deaths attributable to second-hand smoke for Singapore based on studies, such as the Global Burden of Disease, has increased over the past 10 years.
Mr Ong Ye Kung: According to the Global Burden of Disease 2019 study, the estimated number of annual deaths attributable to second-hand smoke for Singapore has increased from 245 in 2010 to 296 in 2019. After adjusting for the effect of population ageing, the age-standardised death rate has declined from 5.2 per 100,000 population to 4.0 per 100,000 population over the same period.
