Translation Tools in School Apps to Support Parents and Caregivers Whose First Language is Not English

76 Mr Patrick Tay Teck Guan asked the Minister for Education whether the Ministry will consider offering a translation tool for digital resources, such as Parent Kits and Parents Gateway, to support parents and caregivers whose first language is not English.

Mr Chan Chun Sing: Currently, parents and guardians can make use of in-device translation functions on smart devices to select and translate relevant parts of any digital text, or scan images of text for translation using free translation apps. These tools can be applied to Parents Gateway messages, Parent Kits and other education resources. Parents and guardians who need support can reach out to school staff.

The Ministry of Education will continue to study ways to enhance our digital resources so that translations can be even more convenient for parents and guardians.
