Tracking Sleep Deficiency among Students
Ministry of EducationSpeakers
Transcript
65 Mr Patrick Tay Teck Guan asked the Minister for Education (a) whether the Ministry has any data on students' self-reported sleep patterns; and (b) if not, whether there are any plans to track sleep deficiency among students, in view that sufficient sleep is critical to physical and mental health and well-being.
Mr Chan Chun Sing: The Ministry of Education monitors the sleep sufficiency of students through regular surveys. Based on the latest survey in 2023, Primary 5 and Secondary 3 students reported, on average, getting seven hours of sleep on school days. In schools, students learn about the importance of sleep and good sleep habits through the Physical Education curriculum. Parents also play an important role to encourage their children to adopt good sleep habits.
