Transcript

42 Mr Darryl David asked the Minister for Education (a) in the last five years, how many suicide and attempted suicide cases have been reported in schools and institutions; and (b) whether certain schools and institutions present a higher number of reported suicide cases than others.

Mr Chan Chun Sing: Based on ICA data, the suicide incidence rate for young persons aged 10 to 19 has fluctuated over the last five years. For every 100,000 young persons aged 10 to 19, the suicide incidence was 4.4 in 2018, 4.0 in 2019, 5.5 in 2020, 8.9 in 2021 and 6.6 in 2022. These figures are lower than the national suicide rate.

There are no indications that certain schools and Institutes of Higher Learning have a higher reported suicide rate.
