31 Mr Patrick Tay Teck Guan asked the Minister for Manpower whether the Ministry intends to study (i) potential productivity gains from artificial intelligence (AI) adoption and (ii) the extent to which AI-associated productivity gains could translate into wage growth for non-senior managerial workers.

Dr Tan See Leng: The Government is studying and will continue to study the extent to which AI can affect jobs and its potential impact on the labour market and productivity. Isolating the potential productivity gains and wage growth that are solely attributable to artificial intelligence adoption is challenging, as the technology and its effects on job tasks rapidly evolve. Additionally, the full benefits of AI adoption will take time to materialise.
