83 Mr Lim Biow Chuan asked the Minister for Transport whether LTA can step up its enforcement action against reckless cyclists riding along the footpaths and Park Connector Networks.
Mr Ong Ye Kung: Over the last two years, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) has more than tripled its enforcement resources to more than 200 enforcement officers deployed against errant active mobility riders. Today, LTA conducts daily operations on public paths, including enforcement against cyclists who ride recklessly on footpaths, and works with the National Parks Board to conduct targeted enforcement at parks and park connectors. Since 2019, LTA has taken enforcement action against more than 720 errant cyclists.
With close to 6,000 km of footpaths and cycling paths island-wide, enforcement will always be a challenge. LTA has been harnessing technology such as the use of mobile CCTVs and the public reporting function in the MyTransport.SG mobile app to augment its enforcement presence. LTA will also step up public education to foster a safe riding culture.
