Regulations to Ensure Bicycle Headlights Emit Dipped Beams
Ministry of TransportSpeakers
Transcript
11 Mr Murali Pillai asked the Minister for Transport whether regulations may be considered to ensure that the headlights on the front of bicycles and power-assisted bicycles emit dipped beams so as not to blind pedestrians and motorists approaching these bicycles from the opposite direction.
Mr S Iswaran: For safety reasons, cyclists may adjust the position of their headlights under different illumination conditions to see the path ahead and to be seen by other path users from a reasonable distance. Under the code of conduct for public path users, cyclists should avoid shining their lights onto the faces of other people. The Land Transport Authority will continue to emphasise gracious riding practices in its public education campaigns.
