Reducing Barriers to Employment for Persons with Epilepsy Through Greater Awareness

Speakers

Transcript

43 Mr Christopher de Souza asked the Minister for Manpower whether greater awareness can be created among employers about epilepsy and the various kinds of seizures to reduce a barrier to entry for persons with epilepsy seeking employment.

Dr Tan See Leng: The Tripartite Alliance for Fair and Progressive Employment Practices (TAFEP) has been undertaking educational efforts, including public awareness campaigns, to strengthen understanding and support for the adoption of fair and inclusive employment practices. Persons with certain medical conditions can still perform certain jobs well. Employers should assess the candidates based on merit and their ability to do the job and not based on their medical conditions.

If workers feel that they have been unfairly treated due to conditions, such as epilepsy, they can approach TAFEP for advice and assistance.
