Prosecution of Illegal Trade of Endangered Species in Past Five Years

29 Mr Louis Ng Kok Kwang asked the Minister for National Development of the cases prosecuted for the illegal import and export of endangered species in the past five years, in how many cases were (i) the runners prosecuted and (ii) the syndicate leaders prosecuted.

Mr Desmond Lee: Between 2017 and 2021, 18 cases were prosecuted for the illegal trade of endangered species under the Endangered Species (Import and Export) Act. None of the persons prosecuted have been found to be associated with organised crime in Singapore or overseas at this point in time.
