Processing and Preservation of First-generation, decommissioned MRT Trains in Singapore
Ministry of TransportSpeakers
Transcript
58 Mr Dennis Tan Lip Fong asked the Minister for Transport (a) how are decommissioned trains in Singapore processed; and (b) whether any of the first-generation trains will be preserved in a public place to record Singapore's transport history.
Mr S Iswaran: The first 106 trains which have served on the North-South East-West Line (NSEWL) and 19 trains on the Bukit Panjang LRT (BPLRT) are progressively being decommissioned. These old trains have served Singapore well and played an important part in Singapore’s history.
LTA is, currently, in active discussion with several organisations which have expressed interest to use some of these trains for education, training and heritage purposes. Interested parties can contact LTA for more details.
