69 Dr Neo Kok Beng asked the Minister for National Development (a) for the last 10 years, what is the percentage of green areas, which include parks and forests, relative to overall land areas; and (b) what is the final percentage of green areas to be maintained in Singapore's mainland.

Mr Chee Hong Tat: There are about 7,800 hectares of green spaces in Singapore today, which include nature reserves, nature areas, parks and park connectors. After accounting for planned developments as presented in the latest Master Plan, the Urban Redevelopment Authority has safeguarded an additional 1,000 hectares of green spaces that is being progressively implemented. In total, the 8,800 hectares make up around 10% of Singapore's land area.
