Outcome of Single Unwed Parents' Applications to Purchase HDB Flats in 2021

33 Mr Louis Ng Kok Kwang asked the Minister for National Development (a) in 2021, how many single unwed parents have applied to purchase a HDB flat from HDB; (b) how many of such applications have been rejected; and (c) what are the reasons for the rejections.

Mr Desmond Lee: In 2021, HDB received 145 requests from single unwed parents to purchase a flat from HDB. Almost all of the requests were approved, except for 13 requests which were unsuccessful because the applicants either did not submit the required documents for HDB’s evaluation, did not have sufficient budget to buy a flat, or exceeded the income ceiling to purchase a flat from HDB.
