Speakers

Transcript

8 Mr Louis Ng Kok Kwang asked the Minister for Transport whether the Ministry will consider increasing the quantum of rebates provided under the Electric Vehicle Early Adoption Incentive scheme and extending the scheme to the end of 2026.

Mr Speaker: Senior Minister of State Amy Khor, I hope it is a short answer.

The Senior Minister of State for Transport (Dr Amy Khor Lean Suan) (for the Minister of Transport): Today, it is really a short answer; just two paragraphs, Mr Speaker, Sir.

The Electric Vehicle Early Adoption Incentive (EEAI) scheme was introduced in 2021 to encourage adoption of electric cars by narrowing the upfront cost gap between electric and internal combustion engine (ICE) cars. Adoption of electric cars has been increasing – last year, around one third of new car registrations were electric cars.

We will review the EEAI later this year, taking into consideration factors such as EV adoption rates and upfront cost difference across powertrains.
