Data on Involuntarily Unemployed and Financial Impact of Unemployment Support Scheme on Taxpayer

39 Mr Yip Hon Weng asked the Minister for Manpower (a) whether the Ministry has accurate data on individuals who are involuntarily unemployed; (b) how will the Ministry define what is a sufficient monthly payout quantum for individuals under the SkillsFuture’s unemployment support scheme; (c) what is the estimated financial impact of this scheme; (d) how does the Government intend to fund this scheme; and (e) whether it will lead to potential tax hikes, such as GST or income tax.

Dr Tan See Leng: The Ministry of Manpower is studying the parameters for the scheme to support involuntarily unemployed workers to bounce back into jobs. More information will be announced at a later stage.
