Current Percentage and Future Plans for All Cycling Lanes to Be Grade-separated from Footpaths

Speakers

Transcript

49 Ms Hazel Poa asked the Minister for Transport (a) what percentage of cycling lanes that run parallel to footpaths are currently fully grade-separated; (b) whether there are plans for all cycling lanes to be grade-separated from footpaths; and (c) if not, why not.

Mr Chee Hong Tat: The Land Transport Authority and National Parks Board generally do not design grade-separated cycling paths that are adjacent to footpaths, and have no plans to do so moving forward. A grade-separated path, such as a raised cycling path, can be a tripping hazard for path users and make it difficult for wheelchair and personal mobility aid users to navigate the level differences between cycling paths and footpaths.
