11 Mr Ng Shi Xuan asked the Senior Minister, Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs (a) whether the Ministry can provide a half-yearly breakdown of all road traffic accidents from 1 January 2024 to date, by class of vehicle and cause of accident; and (b) whether there is any observable trend in the number of road traffic accidents following the recent expansion of the speed limiter regime.

Mr K Shanmugam: The table below presents an annual breakdown of the number of vehicles involved in road traffic accidents involving death or injury1 in 2024 and 2025 by vehicle type2. The most common causes3 of accidents for 2024 and 2025 are failure to keep a proper lookout (48.8% in 2024, 53.4% in 2025); failure to have proper control of the vehicle (11.8% in 2024, 11.7% in 2025); and changing lanes without due care (10.6% in 2024, 8.4% in 2025).

We are monitoring the trend in the number of road traffic accidents as the expanded speed limiter regime is rolled out and will provide an update at a later date.
