Update on HDB Study on Microwave Scanning Technology for Detection and Tracing of Water Seepage
Ministry of National DevelopmentSpeakers
Transcript
41 Ms Nadia Ahmad Samdin asked the Minister for National Development (a) what is the progress of HDB's study to utilise microwave scanning technology to detect and trace sources of water seepage within HDB units; and (b) if the study is successful, what are the Ministry's plans to roll out the technology, especially in ageing estates.
Mr Chee Hong Tat: Between 2024 and 2025, the Housing and Development Board (HDB) has trialed the use of microwave scanning technology at 68 HDB flats which encountered water seepage issues. The technology helps detect and trace sources of water seepage in more complex cases.
HDB is currently assessing the trial results, including whether the technology can be scaled up for wider use in a cost-effective manner and how its use can complement other methods.
