59 Ms He Ting Ru asked the Minister for National Development with regard to the Allotment Gardening Scheme (a) how many allotment garden plots have been made available each year since its inception in 2016; (b) how many allotment garden plots have had their lease terminated and on what basis; and (c) whether there are plans to expand the programme to allow more residents access to sustainable farming in their neighbourhoods.
Mr Desmond Lee: Since 2016, NParks has made available 1,080 allotment garden plots as part of its Allotment Gardening Scheme. The annual number of plots made available is provided in Table 1 below.
Thus far, seven allotment garden plot leases have been terminated early. These were at the gardeners' requests, for reasons such as ill health, relocation, or lack of time. These plots have since been taken up by new gardeners.
NParks will continue to progressively make available more allotment garden plots, many of which will be in parks near residential areas.
