Timeline between Issuance of Summonses for LTA Offences and Date of Offence

80 Mr Gerald Giam Yean Song asked the Minister for Transport (a) what is the median time period from the date of offence to the date a summons is issued by LTA to alleged offenders; and (b) whether LTA has guidelines in place to ensure that summonses are not issued more than three months after the date of offence.

Mr Ong Ye Kung: Approximately 99% of all summonses are issued by LTA within two weeks upon confirmation that an offence has been committed. These include common offences, such as non-payment of Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) charges, illegal parking, and travelling along bus lane during restricted hours.

For non-straightforward cases, LTA may need more time. For example, some offences, especially more serious ones, require more time to complete thorough investigations before the appropriate summonses are issued. This is to ensure fairness to all parties, and to avoid prejudicing the outcome of investigations.
