Redevelopment of Mandai Executive Golf Course and Consideration for Alternative Redevelopment Sites or Further Tenancy Extension

Speakers

Transcript

58 Mr Shawn Loh asked the Minister for Culture, Community and Youth (a) what are the Government's reasons for designating Mandai Executive Golf Course (MEGC) for redevelopment, given that MEGC's tenancy had previously been extended to keep golfing costs affordable to the public; and (b) whether the Government will consider (i) exploring alternative redevelopment sites, including private golf courses, and (ii) further extending MEGC's tenancy in the meantime.

Mr David Neo: Mandai Executive Golf Course (MEGC) will be redeveloped by the Ministry of Education to an Outdoor Adventure Learning Centre.

The Government's objective is to balance access to golfing facilities by private golf club members and the general public. The Government had worked with Keppel Club to set aside slots at the Sime Golf Course for public use at affordable prices. The Government also announced in July 2025 that the land occupied by Keppel Club (Sime) and Singapore Island Country Club (Bukit) would be reallocated for public golf course use, following the expiry of their leases in December 2030, with a part of the site considered for allocation to the Labour Movement for its members. This is being studied and updates will be provided in due course.

Agencies are reviewing a short-term tenancy extension arising from the MEGC operator's appeal and will update MEGC in due course.
