64 Mr Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim asked the Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs in light of recent incidents of meat parcels sent to local mosques, whether there are established protocols and training for mosque personnel to handle and report suspicious or hazardous packages.
Assoc Prof Dr Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim: The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) has clear safety protocols in place for all mosque personnel, including staff and volunteers. When suspicious or hazardous packages are identified in mosques, staff are to call the Police, support investigations by the relevant authorities, and take actions to ensure the safety of the public. They are also to provide prompt and accurate updates to congregants and the public.
Mosque personnel receive regular training on these protocols.
