Written Answer to Unanswered Oral Question

Progress on Installation of EV Chargers in HDB Car Parks and Public Spaces

Speakers

Summary

This question concerns the implementation status and acceleration of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in HDB car parks and public spaces to match rising adoption rates. Mr Christopher de Souza asked whether current installations are keeping pace with EV adoption and if there are plans to ramp up deployment. Minister of State Jeffrey Siow replied that Singapore has over 25,000 charging points and is on track to meet its 2030 target of 60,000 points. He noted that over 7,500 chargers already serve 85% of HDB car parks, with every resident expected to have convenient access by the end of 2024. The Land Transport Authority will continue monitoring usage and working with operators to scale up deployment in high-demand areas where electrical capacity permits.

71 Mr Christopher de Souza asked the Acting Minister for Transport (a) whether an update can be provided on the implementation status for the roll-out of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in public spaces; and (b) whether there are plans to accelerate the roll-out as more EVs are being adopted in Singapore.

72 Mr Christopher de Souza asked the Acting Minister for Transport (a) whether the installation of electric vehicle (EV) chargers in public car parks managed by HDB is keeping up with Singaporeans’ increased rate of EV adoption; and (b) whether there are plans to ramp up installations of EV chargers in HDB car parks going forward.

Mr Jeffrey Siow: There are currently more than 25,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging points island-wide, of which close to half are publicly accessible. We are on track to achieve our earlier target of deploying 60,000 charging points by 2030, in tandem with EV adoption.

For Housing Housing and Development Board (HDB) car parks, there are more than 7,500 charging points installed across about 85% of HDB car parks today. We are on track to provide every HDB resident with convenient access to an EV charger by the end of this year, keeping pace with the progress of EV adoption.

The Land Transport Authority tracks the usage of these chargers. We will continue to keep up with the latest charging technology and work with the community and EV charging operators to scale up deployment of EV chargers in car parks with high charging demand, electrical capacity permitting.
