Potential Solution for Traffic Congestion in McNair and Towner Precinct due to Multiple Upcoming BTO Developments

55 Mr Shawn Loh asked the Acting Minister for Transport (a) whether the Land Transport Authority can consider providing a right-turn from McNair Road onto Balestier Road towards the Central Expressway, given the likely increase in car traffic arising from multiple new BTO developments in the McNair and Towner precinct; and (b) if so, whether the right-turn can be constructed before mid-2026 before the congestion situation worsens.

Mr Jeffrey Siow: The Land Transport Authority will be providing a right-turn from McNair Road onto Balestier Road towards the Central Expressway, on top of other traffic enhancements, such as junction widening and lane extension. This is intended to support new Build-To-Order (BTO) developments in the McNair and Towner precinct. These enhancements are targeted to be rolled out before the new BTO developments, which will be completed from the first half of 2026.
