91 Ms Lee Hui Ying asked the Coordinating Minister for Social Policies and Minister for Health (a) whether there are specific studies or evidence that the Government is reviewing to assess the potential mental health impacts associated with exposure to second-hand smoke; and (b) if yes, what are they.

Mr Ong Ye Kung: There are some studies indicating possible associations between exposure to second-hand smoke and poor mental health. But there is currently insufficient evidence to show that such exposure causes adverse mental health outcomes. The commonly recognised risk factors of mental health issues are lifestyle aspects, such as stress, sleep problems, chronic diseases and excessive screen time.
