Pegging Remuneration of Rail Operators' Key Executives to Rail Performance

Speakers

Transcript

77 Mr Xie Yao Quan asked the Acting Minister for Transport (a) whether the Ministry will consider requiring the rail operators to peg the remuneration of their key executives to rail performance; and (b) if not, why not.

Mr Jeffrey Siow: The Government holds rail operators accountable for meeting service and reliability standards, and penalises them for lapses that lead to disruptions. Operators that do not meet reliability targets will also not receive payments under the relevant incentive schemes.

Our rail operators are commercial entities. Setting remuneration that incentivises their employees to achieve desired outcomes, including rail reliability, is the responsibility of their boards and management.
