21 Ms Hany Soh asked the Coordinating Minister for Social Policies and Minister for Health in each of the past five years, what is the number of in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) embryos discarded due to (i) divorce between couples and (ii) death of a spouse.
Mr Ong Ye Kung: The Ministry of Health does not track the number of in-vitro fertilisation embryos discarded due to divorce between couples or death of spouse.
If the Assisted Reproduction centres are informed of such circumstances, the embryo(s) will be donated or discarded in accordance with the couple’s written instructions obtained before embryo(s) storage.
