37 Mr Liang Eng Hwa asked the Minister for Transport (a) whether the Ministry can provide an update on the current and future plans to leverage on technologies to improve road traffic management and reduce traffic congestions in Singapore; and (b) what are the timelines for these plans.

Mr Jeffrey Siow: The Land Transport Authority (LTA) continually explores and leverages new technologies to improve traffic management and enhance the efficiency of Singapore's road network. For example, with the transition to ERP 2.0, LTA can leverage ERP 2.0 data to enhance traffic management and transport planning. We are experimenting with using this data to dynamically optimise the traffic light signal system to improve traffic flow via the Cooperative and Unified Smart Traffic System (CRUISE), which is a smart traffic light control system that LTA is currently piloting.

LTA is also enhancing its traffic incident detection capabilities by using artificial intelligence-powered video analytics so that motorists could be warned of traffic incidents earlier. These capabilities will be progressively rolled out over the coming years to improve traffic flow.
