18 Miss Rachel Ong asked the Minister for Trade and Industry whether there are plans to leverage on the smart electricity meter being installed by SP Group to make available monitoring and push alert services to caregivers of seniors living alone when there are anomalies in home usage.

Mr Gan Kim Yong: There are no plans to tap on advanced electricity meter data to provide alerts to caregivers of seniors living alone. Electricity consumption depends on multiple factors and is unlikely to be a reliable indicator of well-being. To help caregivers of seniors living alone monitor their loved ones, the Silver Generation Office refers these seniors to Active Ageing Centres, where they receive befriending or buddying services.
