Feedback Received on Rooster and Junglefowl Nuisance and Implementation of Humane Population Control Measures

71 Ms Valerie Lee asked the Minister for National Development (a) whether feedback collected by the Ministry on rooster, junglefowl and chicken nuisance (i) has increased in the past five years, and (ii) includes data on reports received by Town Councils; and (b) how is NParks supporting local management agencies, including Town Councils, in implementing and building control measures that are humane; and (c) how effective has this support been.

Mr Chee Hong Tat: Between 2021 and 2025, the number of feedback received by the Municipal Services Office and Town Councils on roosters, junglefowls and chickens has increased.

The National Parks Board (NParks) supports Town Councils and grassroots organisations in implementing population control measures, modifying habitats to reduce roosting near residential areas and educating residents not to release or feed these birds. NParks will continue to work with Town Councils to implement safe, humane and effective measures to manage the free-roaming chickens.
