Ensuring Bus Stop Shelters Provide Adequate Roof Coverage during Heavy Rain
Ministry of TransportSpeakers
Transcript
82 Dr Hamid Razak asked the Acting Minister for Transport (a) how is LTA ensuring that bus-stop shelters provide adequate roof coverage during heavy rain; and (b) whether older bus stops in busy or high-traffic areas will be assessed or retrofitted to reduce commuter exposure to downpours.
Mr Jeffrey Siow: The Land Transport Authority regularly reviews the design of bus stops to better serve commuters. New bus stop designs include back panels which serve both as back rests and rain screens. When older bus stops are upgraded, such newer design features are adopted. At higher-traffic bus stops, such as those connecting to MRT stations, our designs may feature wider and larger roofs if the infrastructure permits.
