77 Ms Valerie Lee asked the Minister for Sustainability and the Environment whether the Ministry will consider working with (i) other Ministries like the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth and (ii) the communities, to establish a framework to allow educational tours on offshore fish farms or kelongs, so as to increase the appreciation for local produce and strengthen our cultural identity.

Ms Grace Fu Hai Yien: The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has been focusing on supporting the growth of our local farms and raising their productivity such as through the adoption of technologies. For public safety and biosecurity reasons, visits to offshore fish farms and kelongs are not encouraged. Nonetheless, SFA, in collaboration with the industry and other agencies, such as the Ministry of Education, has several initiatives to raise awareness on the benefits of local produce among the community.
