83 Mr Yip Hon Weng asked the Minister for Transport (a) in the past three years, how many requests for covered linkways from the gates of condominiums have been received and how many of these are granted under the Walk2Ride programme; (b) whether exemptions have been granted where condominiums do not fulfil the requirement of having a fully sheltered route within its compound from the residential blocks to the gate; and (c) whether LTA will consider doing away with this requirement.

Mr Ong Ye Kung: Over the last three years, LTA has received 53 requests from condominiums for covered linkways to transport nodes, of which 15 were approved.

When agreeing to such requests, LTA requires the condominium to have an internal sheltered route between the gate and the nearest condominium building, to ensure a sheltered connection the entire way. Otherwise, it would not be an effective use of public funds. As such, this is an important criteria to continue to uphold, and LTA does not plan to do away with the requirement.
