Conversion of Excess Multi-storey Carpark Levels into Community Sports Facilities in Jalan Kayu-Fernvale

56 Mr Ng Chee Meng asked the Minister for National Development whether the Ministry will consider converting excess multi-storey carpark levels, especially the often under-utilised upper decks, to provide more community sports facilities for the Jalan Kayu-Fernvale community.

Mr Chee Hong Tat: The Housing and Development Board is working with Sport Singapore (SportSG) to consider the conversion of under-utilised capacity in multi-storey car parks (MSCPs) into community sports facilities and will keep the Member's request in mind, as SportSG progressively develops the Sport-in-Precinct facilities in various communities.

As the MSCPs are specifically built for vehicle parking, conversion into sports facilities is subject to detailed evaluation, such as demand for parking spaces over time, potential disamenities to residents and safety considerations.
