67 Ms Mariam Jaafar asked the Acting Minister for Manpower for the past five years, what have been the most common reasons for rejecting appeals on the Silver Support Scheme.
Ms Jasmin Lau: The Silver Support Scheme is designed for seniors who had lower incomes during their working years and now have little or no family support and resources in retirement. Seniors automatically qualify if they pass the annual eligibility assessment. The most common appeals come from seniors who have experienced changes in circumstances, such as type of residence or per capita household income. Seniors who update the Central Provident Fund Board on their circumstances will have their eligibility reassessed.
The most common reasons for rejecting appeals were because appellants had lifetime wages or per capita household income above the eligibility criteria.
