93 Mr Darryl David asked the Minister for Education what types of background safeguarding checks are done for all educators and non-teaching staff who work in all Government schools including primary, secondary and post-secondary schools.

Mr Desmond Lee: As part of the hiring process, the Ministry of Education (MOE) conducts pre-employment background checks on all prospective employees being considered for teaching and non-teaching positions to ensure student safety and uphold the professional conduct expected of MOE staff. These checks include screening applicants for past criminal records with the Police, conducting reference checks with their previous employers or referees and performing credit screening for those applying for finance-related positions.
