10 Mr Gerald Giam Yean Song asked the Minister for Transport what is the average cost and average duration of constructing lifts at pedestrian overhead bridges.
Mr Ong Ye Kung: A pair of lifts costs around $300,000, but extensive civil works are needed to install them. This brings the average cost of constructing a pair of lifts at a pedestrian overhead bridge to $2 to 3 million, typically, including costs such as site investigations, technical studies and design, or even service diversions and extra structural works.
It typically takes 14 to 22 months to fit in a pair of lifts, and the construction duration varies according to site conditions. More time will be required if there is a need to divert affected utility services.
