Annual Breakdown of Workplace-health Related Claims under Work Injury Compensation Act from 2015 to 2017

13 Mr Melvin Yong Yik Chye asked the Minister for Manpower (a) in each of the last three years, what is the number of claims under the Work Injury Compensation Act that are workplace-health related; and (b) what is the total amount claimed.

Mr Lim Swee Say: There were 186, 211 and 202 workplace health-related claims awarded under the Work Injury Compensation (WIC) Act in 2015, 2016 and 2017 respectively. They made up less than 1.5% of total WIC claims annually. For the last three years, the workplace health-related claims amounted to a total of $24.3 million, which is about 7.4% of the total WIC payout.

While the number of workplace health-related claims remains small, the Ministry of Manpower and the tripartite partners are working together to better address work-related ill-health as part of our Total Workplace Safety and Health Plan.
