Clarification by Minister for Sustainability and the Environment
Ministry of Sustainability and the EnvironmentSpeakers
Summary
This clarification concerns a factual correction made by Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Ms Grace Fu Hai Yien regarding her speech on the Coastal Protection and Other Amendments Bill. The Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Ms Grace Fu Hai Yien clarified the protection requirements for "Transiently Floodable Areas (Coastal)" bound by two specific boundaries. While the original speech suggested these areas required protection against transient coastal flooding but not permanent flooding, the Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Ms Grace Fu Hai Yien clarified that the reverse is true. These prescribed places must be protected against permanent flooding but do not require protection against transient coastal flooding. This correction ensures that the legislative record accurately reflects the intended protection standards for designated coastal areas under the Bill.
