Clarification

Clarification by Acting Minister for Transport

Speakers

Summary

This clarification concerns a factual correction made by Acting Minister Jeffrey Siow regarding his Second Reading speech on the Land Transport and Related Matters Bill. The legislation aims to safeguard the ERP 2.0 system by criminalising the unauthorised tampering of On-Board Units and the provision or advertisement of unauthorised services. Acting Minister Jeffrey Siow stated that these specific offences and their associated penalties will be detailed in subsidiary legislation. He clarified that the penalty for serious cases of deliberate non-compliance or misuse is a fine of up to $20,000 and/or imprisonment of up to one year. This correction amends his earlier statement which had incorrectly specified a maximum imprisonment term of two years for these serious offences.
